People vs. Things

A couple of years ago, I received an email of a segment from the Oprah show of a professor by the name of Randy Pausch giving his "last lecture." He has since lost his battle with pancreatic cancer, but his words have stuck with me. If you have about 10 minutes to spare, I would suggest to watch the following clip.



About halfway into his lecture he talks about how his parents taught him about people vs. things. Many times when I'm driving with Piper in the backseat and I look back to see her dumping Cheerios or Goldfish in her seat, or spilling water, I try to remember this concept. Then there are times when I look in the back seat and see this:
